Course Description

This studio course aims to enable students to develop design approaches for the conservation, adaptive reuse, and contemporary adaptation of interior spaces located within historic buildings and environments. Within the scope of the course, the physical, cultural, social, and economic characteristics of historic buildings are analyzed, while conservation principles, adaptive reuse strategies, and user requirements are evaluated through a holistic design approach. Students conduct research-based design processes by integrating appropriate building systems, materials, and contemporary technologies into design decisions in a manner sensitive to historic contexts. Digital documentation methods, emerging digital technologies, and artificial intelligence-supported tools are critically utilized to support research and design development processes. The course aims to develop functional and innovative interior design solutions that preserve cultural heritage while responding to contemporary needs.
