Program Description

The Data Science program at the School of Applied Sciences, Cyprus International University, was established in 2022 to address the shortage of professionals in the field of data science and to meet the growing demand in the industry. This interdisciplinary program offers students a comprehensive education by blending the fundamental concepts of Computer Science, Statistics, and Mathematics with practical applications.

In addition to technical skills, the program focuses on hands-on knowledge, providing a solid foundation in areas such as data analytics, machine learning, big data management, and data visualization. This foundation enables students to effectively apply data science techniques in the business world. At the same time, students develop the skills necessary to succeed in a dynamic, data-driven economy by learning both theory and practice.

The program prepares its graduates for a competitive job market and equips them with the capabilities to lead future technological innovations. In this context, graduates are given a strong start in both their personal and professional development.

Recognition Of Prior Learning

At Cyprus International University (CIU), full-time students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related bylaws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is equivalent to the course offered at CIU, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty/graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

Objectives

Program Educational Objectives

EO1. To cultivate graduates who are capable of effectively applying data science principles and techniques to real-world problems and developing innovative and sustainable solutions.

EO2. To produce professionals who are knowledgeable and aware of ethical values, privacy, and security in data analysis processes, and who can fulfill their professional responsibilities accordingly.

EO3. To train individuals who can utilize, configure, and manage appropriate software tools to extract meaningful information from complex and diverse data sources.

EO4. To develop graduates who can lead data analysis projects, collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, and communicate efficiently with non-technical stakeholders.

EO5. To foster professionals who adopt a lifelong learning approach by following developments in the field of data science and who possess analytical thinking skills that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

Program Profile

For the first time in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a Bachelor's program in Data Science has been launched within our distinguished institution. The program aims to provide a curriculum that combines data science, machine learning, statistics, and mathematics. In doing so, it seeks to play a significant role in filling the gap in the market while also aiming to enhance collaboration between industry and academia.

The Data Science program is designed to meet the growing workforce demand in data management, big data, and data analytics. The primary goal of the program is to help students develop the knowledge and skills required to work with large-scale data using a wide range of tools, techniques, and methods.

Employments and Occupational Profiles

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

Careers in Data Science are expected to offer strong job opportunities. The fact that demand for data scientists exceeds supply is great news for students and professionals in the field. As a result of this shortage, you'll find that a career in data science can lead in many different directions.

A position in data science not only ranks among the highest-paid tech professions but also offers a wide range of career opportunities. As data scientists progress in their careers, their options continue to expand, and many senior data scientists are given the flexibility to choose where they want to specialize.

Some data scientists aim to lead teams, while others prefer to focus on a specific domain like marketing or on a particular skill such as machine learning.
