Program Description

The Interior Architecture program encourages students to create spaces that enhance individuals' quality of life, improve the efficiency of the social environment, and support public health, safety, and well-being. In this context, the curriculum places strong emphasis on the theoretical foundations of design, observation and research processes, spatial development, and the social dimensions of space. The program fosters the integration of theory and practice by enabling students to develop both individual and collaborative problem-solving strategies.

The department embraces a balanced approach that integrates artistic, technological, and human-centered aspects of the profession while cultivating awareness of contemporary trends and technological advancements in interior architecture. Throughout their undergraduate education, students are provided with the necessary knowledge and practical experience to excel in professional practice.

The program’s vision is to equip students with a multifaceted design identity that acknowledges both local and global values. In this regard, it aims to educate innovative and conscientious interior architects who respond to contemporary artistic and design challenges while fulfilling their professional and societal responsibilities.


Recognition Of Prior Learning

At Cyprus International University (CIU), full-time students may be exempt from certain courses within the framework of the relevant regulations. If the content of a course previously taken at another institution is equivalent to a course offered at CIU, the student may be granted an exemption from that course upon evaluation of the course content and approval from the relevant faculty/institute.

The educational objectives (EO) for the B.S. in Interior Architecture are:

EO3: Utilize contemporary technologies, materials, and visual presentation techniques in the design process.

EO4: Collaborate with architecture, landscape design, and other disciplines to develop multidimensional solutions.

EO5: Uphold social, environmental, and ethical responsibilities while adhering to professional standards.

EO6: Preserve architectural and historical heritage through innovative interior design solutions.


Program Profile

Interior Architecture is a design discipline that keeps living spaces dynamic and unique, integrating contemporary technological advancements with aesthetics to create enjoyable and comfortable environments. The Department of Interior Architecture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture (GSTMF) at UKÜ cultivates future interior architects with a strong commitment to ethical principles. Since its establishment in the 1997-1998 academic year, the department has fostered the development of a distinct school of thought in design, shaping a unique academic and professional identity in the field.

The Interior Architecture program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies required to design interior spaces of both contemporary and historical buildings. The program provides opportunities for students to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and socialization. Throughout their studies, interior architecture students conduct academic research that enhances their professional expertise. Notably, within Interior Architecture Design Studio courses, students work on real-life interior design and decoration projects under the guidance of actual clients.

The teaching methodology in the Interior Architecture program follows a student-centered, hands-on learning approach, where active participation, collaboration, and creativity are highly encouraged. Faculty members play a facilitative and mentoring role, ensuring that students are fully engaged in their learning process. Applied courses take place in design studios, where students work on their projects at drafting tables, while theoretical courses are conducted in lecture halls. Additionally, students actively utilize model-making workshops, computer laboratories, material laboratories, and photography studios for various design-related activities.

In this context, the department's educational resources, including the number of books and library facilities, have significantly expanded over the years, providing students with a well-equipped academic environment.


Admission and Graduation

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from the undergraduate program, it is necessary to succeed in all of the courses listed in the curriculum of the program by getting the grade at least D/ S with a minimum 240 ECTS (142 in national credits) and completed 2 summer training in a specified duration and quality and to have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00

14. Program Graduation Requirements:

  • Completion of a minimum of 142 credits (240 ECTS) of coursework,
  • Successful completion of all courses in the program, with a minimum letter grade of "D" or "E"/"T" for credit-bearing courses and "S" or "E"/"T" for non-credit courses,
  • Completion of a minimum 20-day construction site internship (under the supervision of an Architect or Interior Architect) and a minimum 30-day office internship (under the supervision of an Architect or Interior Architect), and obtaining an "S" grade in internship courses,
  • A Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 or above on a 4.00 scale.


Specific Admission Requirements

TR Applicants:  

TR Students who are successful in the exams conducted by the Higher Education Council Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) and are entitled to enroll in our university in line with their preferences can complete the registration process with the necessary documents for registration from our Registration and Liaison Offices throughout Turkey or from the Registrar's Office on campus.

TRNC Applicants

TRNC citizens and TR citizen candidate students who have completed their entire high school education in TRNC. They are placed in undergraduate programs in line with their success in the CIU Student Placement and Scholarship Ranking Exam and the programs they prefer.

Students who are successful in the exam can register from the TRNC Marketing Office.

International Applicants

Occupational Profiles of Graduates

In the context of evolving global dynamics and European Union frameworks, specialization in the field of design has gained increasing importance. Particularly within interior architecture, there is a growing demand for qualified professionals capable of producing innovative, creative, and value-driven design solutions. Graduates of this program are expected to contribute significantly to the spatial organization and interior design of diverse building typologies.

Department graduates may pursue professional careers in interior architecture or architecture firms, establish independent practices, or work as designers specializing in interior lighting, furniture, exhibition spaces, television studios, or film sets. Given the substantial and sustained demand for interior design services, graduates have employment opportunities across various cities in Türkiye and Europe.


Interior architecture is not limited to the design of newly constructed buildings; graduates may also actively engage in renovation, adaptive reuse, and restoration projects involving existing structures. In professional practice, interior architecture graduates collaborate with architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, and other specialists, both on construction sites and within office environments, operating within multidisciplinary teams.

Additionally, graduates may work in showrooms, trade fairs, exhibition design, professional retail environments, stage design, and furniture design, reflecting the broad scope and interdisciplinary nature of the profession.

The measurement and assessment methods applied in each course are defined in the “Syllabus” prepared by the relevant faculty member(s) and are included in the Course Information Package. With respect to examinations and course grading procedures, the relevant provisions of the Cyprus International University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations are applied.
