Program Description

The Interior Architecture program encourages students to create spaces that enhance individuals' quality of life, improve the efficiency of the social environment, and support public health, safety, and well-being. In this context, the curriculum places strong emphasis on the theoretical foundations of design, observation and research processes, spatial development, and the social dimensions of space. The program fosters the integration of theory and practice by enabling students to develop both individual and collaborative problem-solving strategies.

The department embraces a balanced approach that integrates artistic, technological, and human-centered aspects of the profession while cultivating awareness of contemporary trends and technological advancements in interior architecture. Throughout their undergraduate education, students are provided with the necessary knowledge and practical experience to excel in professional practice.

The program’s vision is to equip students with a multifaceted design identity that acknowledges both local and global values. In this regard, it aims to educate innovative and conscientious interior architects who respond to contemporary artistic and design challenges while fulfilling their professional and societal responsibilities.

Recognition Of Prior Learning

At Cyprus International University (CIU), full-time students may be exempt from certain courses within the framework of the relevant regulations. If the content of a course previously taken at another institution is equivalent to a course offered at CIU, the student may be granted an exemption from that course upon evaluation of the course content and approval from the relevant faculty/institute.

Objectives

Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives (EO) for the B.S. in Interior Architecture are:

EO1: Apply problem-solving skills to create functional and aesthetic interior designs that enhance community well-being.

EO2: Design future living environments that respect cultural heritage, traditions, and diverse contexts.

EO3: Utilize contemporary technologies, materials, and visual presentation techniques in the design process.

EO4: Collaborate with architecture, landscape design, and other disciplines to develop multidimensional solutions.

EO5: Uphold social, environmental, and ethical responsibilities while adhering to professional standards.

EO6: Preserve architectural and historical heritage through innovative interior design solutions.

Program Profile

Interior Architecture is a design discipline that keeps living spaces dynamic and unique, integrating contemporary technological advancements with aesthetics to create enjoyable and comfortable environments. The Department of Interior Architecture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture (GSTMF) at UKÜ cultivates future interior architects with a strong commitment to ethical principles. Since its establishment in the 1997-1998 academic year, the department has fostered the development of a distinct school of thought in design, shaping a unique academic and professional identity in the field.

The Interior Architecture program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies required to design interior spaces of both contemporary and historical buildings. The program provides opportunities for students to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and socialization. Throughout their studies, interior architecture students conduct academic research that enhances their professional expertise. Notably, within Interior Architecture Design Studio courses, students work on real-life interior design and decoration projects under the guidance of actual clients.

The teaching methodology in the Interior Architecture program follows a student-centered, hands-on learning approach, where active participation, collaboration, and creativity are highly encouraged. Faculty members play a facilitative and mentoring role, ensuring that students are fully engaged in their learning process. Applied courses take place in design studios, where students work on their projects at drafting tables, while theoretical courses are conducted in lecture halls. Additionally, students actively utilize model-making workshops, computer laboratories, material laboratories, and photography studios for various design-related activities.

In this context, the department's educational resources, including the number of books and library facilities, have significantly expanded over the years, providing students with a well-equipped academic environment.
