Program Description

Ph.D. in Civil Engineering program covers the fields of structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydrology, and material and construction management. Due to the importance of applied learning, our program is among the top institutions that utilizes state-of-the-art research and development laboratories and computer laboratories. Our program offers an education in realization of the importance to generate ethical, entrepreneurial, environmentally-responsible, technologically advanced graduates for national and international platforms of the field of civil engineering without wavering from high-quality educational standards.
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering degree is designed to raise research specialists in the areas of material, geotechnical, structural, clean/waste water and construction management. Purpose of this education is not only to educate research specialists who are up-to-date with necessary engineering and technological knowledge and have the ability to adapt to the new knowledge; but also to have graduates who can advance the field of civil engineering by effectively using their knowledge, self-confidence, communication and research skills they have gained throughout their education.

Recognition Of Prior Learning

At International Cyprus University (CIU), full-time students may be exempt from certain courses within the framework of the relevant regulations. If the content of a course previously taken at another institution is equivalent to a course offered at CIU, the student may be granted an exemption from that course upon evaluation of the course content and approval from the relevant faculty/institute.

Program Educational Objectives

Develop Independent Research Capability: To equip PhD students with the ability to conduct independent research under faculty supervision, including defining, designing, and solving complex scientific problems.

Foster Deep Scientific Analysis and Interpretation: To enable students to analyze and interpret scientific phenomena with a broad and profound perspective, developing the methodological skills necessary to reach novel scientific syntheses.

Contribute Original Knowledge to the Field: To ensure that, through the doctoral thesis, the student fulfills at least one of the essential criteria of originality: introducing an innovation to science, developing a new scientific method, or applying an existing method to a novel area.

Prepare for Research and Academic Careers: To train highly competent individuals who can generate scientific knowledge, publish in professional journals, and present at major conferences, thereby fulfilling the essential initial phase for a career in research or other research-based professions.

Admission and Graduation

Graduation Requirements

1.    Completion of a minimum of 21 credits  of coursework,

2.    Successful completion of all courses in the program, with a minimum letter grade of "B"  for credit-bearing courses and "S"  for non-credit courses,

3.    A Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.00 or above on a 4.00 scale.

Regarding exams and course grades, relevant articles of Cyprus International University Associate Degree, Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations are applied.
