PEO 4 – Graduate Education and Academic Development: Our graduates pursue postgraduate studies and continue their careers in academic fields or advanced engineering positions requiring specialized expertise.

PEO 5 – Ethics, Sustainability, and Social Responsibility: Our graduates conduct their professional careers in accordance with ethical engineering principles while developing sustainable and socially responsible engineering solutions.

Program Profile

The Mechanical Engineering Department at Cyprus International University (CIU) has been offering full-time undergraduate education since 2014. The language of instruction is English, and the curriculum consists of a four-year program comprising 135 national credits. Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded the title of Mechanical Engineer. The diploma certifies that the graduate has successfully completed a four-year Bachelor's degree program.

After completing the first-year foundation courses in basic sciences, students take both theoretical and practical courses in mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine elements, engineering design, materials science, industrial management, and engineering economics. The curriculum also includes mathematics, computer programming, electrical engineering, and a variety of non-engineering elective courses that support students' broader academic and professional development. In addition to coursework, students are encouraged to engage in both applied and theoretical research activities.

The educational approach adopted by the Mechanical Engineering Department is student-centered and practice-oriented, emphasizing learning by doing. Particular importance is placed on students' active participation, collaboration, and creativity, while academic staff assume supportive and guiding roles throughout the learning process. Practical courses are conducted in laboratories and the Mechanical Engineering Workshop, whereas theoretical courses are delivered in classroom settings. Students actively utilize both computer laboratories and engineering laboratories during their studies. Furthermore, the Department's educational resources, including library facilities and engineering literature, have been continuously expanded over the years. In addition, the Mechanical Engineering Workshop provides students with hands-on manufacturing experience by enabling them to operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and drilling machines, as well as to use hand tools and precision measuring instruments for the accurate fabrication of engineering components.

Admission and Graduation

Graduation Requirements

To be awarded the Bachelor's degree, students must successfully complete all credit-bearing courses in the curriculum, totaling 240 ECTS credits (135 national credits), with a minimum grade of D in credit-bearing courses and S (Satisfactory) in non-credit courses. In addition, students must successfully complete the two compulsory summer internships in accordance with the prescribed duration and requirements and achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements And Regulations

To graduate from this bachelor's degree program, students must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 out of 4.00, successfully complete all courses in the curriculum without receiving grades of F, D-, or U, and earn a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. In addition, students are required to successfully complete two compulsory summer internships within the prescribed duration and in accordance with the specified requirements.
