Course Description
The course will examine basic elements of child's rights and child law by analyzing the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Child abuse and neglect, child labor, child soldiers are some of the focus areas of the course. By taking this frame work the course will compare child rights in Turkey, Cyprus and other countries that are interest to the students. After this analysis different approaches and policy prescriptions will be discussed. The seminar will highlight issues of social justice, disproportionality – particularly the over-representation of children and families of different ethnical backgrounds in the child welfare system, and disadvantaged populations, including children in general and poor children in particular.
