Course Description
The primary objective of this course is to provide undergraduate physiotherapy and rehabilitation students with a holistic understanding of normal swallowing anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. It offers highly comprehensive theoretical knowledge regarding the etiology of swallowing disorders. Within the educational program, the course aims to teach the most current clinical assessment methods and modern, evidence-based physiotherapy approaches for these complex conditions. Furthermore, the course develops students' skills to thoroughly analyze any dysfunction in the swallowing mechanism, establish laryngeal and cervical region control, and safely apply specific swallowing maneuvers. Additionally, it maximizes advanced clinical reasoning abilities by ensuring students fully internalize their vital professional roles within a multidisciplinary team of otorhinolaryngologists, speech therapists, dietitians, and neurologists to improve overall patient care.
