Course Description

The aim of the course is to teach the students process from the concept stage to prototype – the final product- production. Accordingly the course constitutes a design process from concept creation to the stage of production of prototype of a piece of furniture. General and multipurpose interior systems generated for mass production. It covers the application of design methods and processes in specialized industrial areas like home, office, baby, and children, and street furniture. Emphasis will be given to structure, techniques and expression as well as safety, durability and testing standards. Practicing in industrial design, Interior architecture, open space applications and street furniture.

Week 2 General discussion on “furniture” in terms of function, ergonomics, structure, construction, material, detailing, aesthetic considerations etc.
Week 3 Definition and clarification of the project Research subject: writing a scenario regarding the project and develop a conceptual approach .
Week 4 Critics based on the 'concept issue'. Design devolopment and critics based on 'function and ergonomics' issues. / Research subject: CHILDREN dimensions and ergonomics regarding the purpose of living.
Week 5 Design devolopment and critics based on 'materials' and 'aesthetics' issues. / Research subject: material proposal.
Week 6 Design devolopment and critics based on 'structure', 'detailing', and 'construction issues'. / Research subject: structure and detailing.
