Course Description
The main aim of this course is to help students to understand the meaning of furniture and the evolution of interior design and furniture design in relation to styles and periods, mainly considering the last 200 years including Victorian style, art nouveau, arts & crafts, art deco, modernism, post-war modernism, reconstruction and rationalism, pop culture, conformist, reformist and eclectic. Course has a twofold content which deals with the technical and aesthetic norms, historical and socio cultural dimensions of traditional decorative arts and crafts such as masonry, stonework, iron welding, wood carving, marbling, miniature, calligraphy, tile work, mosaics, carpeting, rugs, and also ancient history and style changes in furniture design especially since the last two century, related to social and cultural aspects of the society.
