Course Description
The aim of this course is to introduce fundamental fields and thinkers of philosophy as well as to contribute to the development of critical thinking skills of the students. The course begins with the question “what is philosophy” and the relation between philosophy and other disciplines. It continues with correct ways of thinking, logic and argumentation as the first step towards critical thinking. Then comes the major fields of philosophy, including ontology, epistemology, philosophy of science, moral and political philosophy, philosophy of religion and arts. The major thinkers in each field is covered. The students are expected to see the links between their fields and philosophical theories. The relation between different philosophical theories and education styles are discussed. For the students to gain critical thinking skills, the course is organized in an argumentative manner.
