Course Description
This course explores the multifaceted impact of culture on child development within a comprehensive theoretical framework. The curriculum examines cultural developmental models, family structures, and caregiving practices, alongside the cultural determinants of childhood experiences from pregnancy through early childhood. It discusses and evaluates cultural variations in cognitive, socio-emotional, physical, and linguistic development during infancy and early childhood through comparative perspectives. Students analyze how societal values, traditions, and parental ethnotheories shape child-rearing patterns. The course aims to provide a deep understanding of child development within its cultural context and to foster the cultural sensitivity necessary for professional practices in diverse environments.
