Course outcomes

  1. 01 Describe the basic concepts and conceptual classifications of hospitality and tourism industries.
  2. 02 Classify the various forms of accommodation facilities and their structures and competence in distinguishing features of those forms.
  3. 03 Categorize to use and interpret accommodation operations and their functions.
  4. 04 Clarify the meaning and importance of management information systems for hospitality and tourism industries.

Course Syllabus

Week 1 Welcoming the students, Introducing syllabus and giving general info about the course.
Week 2 A general introduction to tourism (tourism as a global activity, tourism as an area of study, tourism as an integrated system, production and consumption of tourism).
Week 3 The evolution and development of tourism (tourism, history and the past, the origins of modern tourism, the rise of mass tourism, tourism in twentieth century )
Week 4 Understanding tourism demand (the elements of tourism demand, the factors influencing tourism demand, measuring tourism demand, future demand for tourism)
Week 5 Understanding tourist as a consumer (who is tourist?, tourist motivations, tourists’ decision-making process, tourist segmentation).
Week 6 Understanding the tourism Industry (an introductory framework of tourism supply, information communication technologies and e-tourism, travel intermediaries: tour operators and travel agents).
Week 7 Understanding the tourism industry (transporting of the tourists, tourism accommodation and hospitality, visitor attractions

Week 10 Managing tourist operations (HRM in tourism, financing tourism operations, tourism and entrepreneurship).

Week 13 Trends and themes in the use of tourism resources (Urban tourism, Rural Tourism, Cultural tourism, Ecotourism (ecological tourism, agro tourism, Coastal and resort tourism, gastronomy tourism).
Week 14 Managing tourist activities (planning and managing tourist experience, tourist health and safety, global challenges for tourism, event tourism, the future of tourism).
