Course Description

The aim of the thesis study is to enable graduate students to conduct an original and independent research study in the field of Software Engineering under the supervision of a faculty advisor. The student is expected to perform a comprehensive literature review in a selected software engineering domain, identify a research problem, formulate research questions or hypotheses, and design an appropriate methodological framework. The thesis process includes developing or adapting methods, models, tools, or system architectures where applicable; collecting or generating relevant datasets; conducting experimental or empirical evaluations; analyzing results using appropriate performance and quality metrics; and interpreting findings within a theoretical and applied software engineering context. Emphasis is placed on scientific rigor, reproducibility, ethical considerations in research, and critical analysis of outcomes. At the end of the study, the graduate student is expected to prepare a written thesis that complies with academic standards and to orally defend the research before a jury appointed by the department.
