Course Description

This course is based around the theoretical and practical skills required for directing films and TV programs. The aim is to enable students to gain critical and creative ways of thinking and to create awareness about film production. This course integrates theory and practice to teach students production and directing stages (pre-production, production, and post-production), advanced principles and techniques, the director's duties and responsibilities, particularly their relationships with actors, production crew, designers, screenwriters, and production managers. After addressing the theories, knowledge, and skills necessary for directing films and TV, the course will end with the production and presentation of short video clips and films.

Course outcomes

  1. 01 The students will learn the phases of script writing (synopsis, treatment, script and shooting script) and execute on their own projects.
  2. 02 The students will learn the formal characteristics of the different phases of a script and apply them to their own projects .
  3. 03 The students will express their knowledge on the basics of storytelling through their own projects.
  4. 04 The students will be able to construct a dramatic structure in their own projects.
  5. 05 The students will learn how to create characters and write dialogues along with other aspects of pre-production and execute on their own projects.
  6. 06 The students will apply their theoretical knowledge of the production process on their own projects, writing and directing their own short movies.
