Course Description

Students taking this course will learn about the basic concepts of education, the relationship and functions of education with other sciences (philosophical, social, legal, psychological, economic, political foundations of education), historical development of educational science, trends in educational science in the 21st century, research methods in educational science, Turkish National Education. They can explain the structure and characteristics of the system, the role of the teacher in the education system, the characteristics of the teaching profession, the characteristics of a good teacher, and the practices and developments in the field of teacher training. In addition, at the end of the course, they can define the personal and professional characteristics that a teacher should have and develop an attitude towards displaying appropriate behavior. Teacher candidates, who will have knowledge about the positive and negative practices in teacher training, which is one of the objectives of the course, will also be able to develop attitudes on this issue.

P01 Demonstrate an understanding of the core subfields of psychology — including but not limited to clinical, developmental, cognitive, social, and biological/neuroscientific psychology — and their interconnections with other scientific disciplines, critically evaluating the value of a multidisciplinary approach to scientific inquiry in psychology.
  2. P02 Apply scientific methods, research techniques, measurement and psychometric principles (e.g., reliability, validity, scale development/adaptation), and quantitative/statistical reasoning to investigate psychological phenomena, recognizing methodological strengths, limitations, common reasoning fallacies, and the flaws of pseudoscience.
  3. P03 Employ logical, intuitive, and creative thinking to analyze psychological concepts, evaluate theories (including their historical and philosophical development), synthesize information, and solve complex problems related to cognition and behavior.
