Course Description

The objective of this class is to teach physiotherapeutic assessment and treatment approaches utilized in the rehabilitation of subjects with upper extremity and hand problems. Learning outcomes are to enable students to understand the anatomy and biomechanics of the hand and upper extremity; to use upper extremity functional assessment methods; to treat patients with problems such as cumulative traumas, soft tissue injuries, tendon and nerve repairs, tendon transplantations, fractures and rheumatological conditions, upper extremity limb deficiencies and anomalies and to utilize their knowledge for clinical problem solving. Hand rehabilitation is a specialized field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Hand therapist work in collaboration with orthopedics and reconstructive surgeons to treat patients with upper extremity problems; provide vocational rehabilitation and increase quality of life for these patients.
