Course Description
Topics include the terms and definitions in Pharmacology, drug nomenclature, drug classification, drug formulations, principles of rational drug usage, mechanisms for diffusion and transport of drugs within the body, routes for drug administration, principals of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion, apparent volume of distribution and clinical importance, clinical concepts for drug clearence, adjustment of drug dosages in hepatic and renal disorders, factors influencing drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, reasons of variability in drug responses between individuals, drug-drug, drug-diet and drug-test interactions, pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic aspects in drug action, drug usage in special patient populations such as childhood, elderly and pregnancy, theories for mechanisms of drug effect, and concentration-effect relationships.
