Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide the knowledge for the prevention, diagnosis and the management of the complications in maxillofacial surgery. The maxillofacial region comprises a wide variety of anatomical structures so the complications of the surgical interventions to these structures also have a wide range. In this context, the student will be educated for the complications of maxillofacial trauma surgery, orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery and reconstructive surgery including the distraction osteogenesis and grafting procedures. The student will learn the prevention, diagnosis and the management of the complications of specialized tissues namely, soft and hard tissues, the nerves, and the vascular structures.
