Course Description

This course will provide the student with an introduction to the general biology of the bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasitic protozoans, helminths, and arthropods of humans. This module emphasizes the morphology, form and function, life cycles, symptomatology, and pathogenesis of representative taxa from these major parasitic groups. This course covers principles of microbiology with emphasis or microorganisms and human disease. Topics include an overview of microbiology and aspects of medical microbiology. Identification and control of pathogens, disease transmission, host resistance, and immunity. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of microorganisms and the disease process as well as aseptic and sterile techniques.
