Course Description

Mathematical models and equations for: fasteners and power screws, springs, bearings, gears, shafts, clutches and brakes, belt and chain drives. Force and stress analysis of gears and gear systems. Cam and follower systems. Systematic approach to design. Students will have an opportunity to work on a design project using learned knowledge.

  1. L01 Describe the advanced machine components such as gears, bearings, couplings, axle, shafts, keys, belt and pulleys. SOLO 3
  2. L02 Perform calculations for the design of axles, shafts, belts and pulleys, as well as keys and couplings, by applying engineering standards and design data, including relevant failure criteria. SOLO 4
  3. L03 Explain the various power transmission systems, highlighting the different types of gears and their applications. Also, define the different types of bearings and their uses. SOLO 4
