Course Description

The MISY402 Capstone Project serves as the culmination of the Management Information Systems program, building directly on the foundational project management skills acquired in MISY401. In this course, students are tasked with applying their knowledge in a real-world setting by undertaking multidisciplinary projects that integrate their field of expertise with that of others. The capstone project begins with the handover from the MISY401 instructor, during which students, having already formed teams and selected project topics in the previous semester, transition into intensive project development under the guidance of a chosen supervisor. This first stage is a preparation to the capstone team project that follows and it involves conducting a feasibility study, setting clear objectives, defining tasks and milestones, and gathering system requirements from a real business or organization, which ends with a well-structured and formal feasibility report explaining the topic chosen for culminating in the design and development of a system. The strategic integration between MISY401 and MISY402 ensures a seamless transition from conceptual study to practical application, reinforcing the importance of project management skills in a collaborative environment. By the end of the capstone project, students are expected to have gained not only in-depth knowledge of their subject but also an understanding of how to relate their expertise to other fields, reflecting the multidisciplinary nature of the course. The capstone team project is concluded with students submitting a comprehensive report and delivering an oral presentation, demonstrating their ability to execute a complex project from inception to completion.
