Course Description

This course examines the fundamental theories of cultural heritage conservation, national and international conservation principles, and basic approaches for the documentation and evaluation of historic buildings from an interior architecture perspective. Within the scope of the course, conservation theories, restoration principles, adaptive reuse, cultural heritage management, UNESCO and ICOMOS principles, and conservation charters are examined. The physical, cultural, and spatial values of historic buildings are analyzed, while deterioration causes, intervention decisions, and sustainable conservation approaches are discussed. In addition, digital documentation methods and contemporary conservation technologies are introduced to enable students to develop an analytical perspective toward the preservation of historic interiors.
