Course Description

This course deals with Traditional Turkish House which is the main concept of vernacular Turkish architecture. While explaining common principles of Turkish Houses in Anatolia, the main aim is to give the understanding of relations between the building and life style. The reasons behind the use of different building materials and techniques will be discussed during the lectures. Main topics are “Meaning of Turkish House”, “Urban Texture of Traditional Cities”, “Origins of the Concepts of Turkish House”, “Basic Design Principles of Traditional Turkish House”, “Spatial and Structural Properties of Turkish House”, “(Plan) Types of Turkish House”, “Interior Space Features and Furnishing in the Room”. In addition, traditional Turkish houses in North Cyprus and the contemporary housing developments will be compared in the scope of the course.

P09 The student will be able to manage design processes, apply the regulations in construction, material knowledge, skills in 3D composition, and evaluate the spatiality of people and products by deepening the skills learned in Bachelor's studies and broaden their knowledge in spatial design and furniture design.
