Course Description
This course is designed to introduce graduate students to the biological bases of behavior, specifically how biology affects behavior and how behavior and environment influence biology reciprocally. The biological bases include neuronal, genetic, and hormonal aspects. This course will discuss the structure, organization, and function of these biological bases, approaches to measure them, and their interactions with behavior. Topics will include major divisions of the brain and nervous system and their functions; methods used to study the biological basis of behaviour; structure of neurons and how neural impulses are generated; regulatory biological systems, such as sleep, homeostasis; and the role of the brain and nervous system in health and disease.
