Course Description

This course is intended for students who will continue to develop their range and competence in the language skills of their academic discipline and profession. The course is designed to equip students with general and specific terminology and expressions which will help them communicate efficiently in their field. Course also aims to give realistic and communicative practice of language skills, listening, reading, speaking and writing, needed in tourism, Also writing practice which will focus on the type of texts that they will nedd to produce in the industry,and will expose the students to industry situations, including dialogues, presentations, and interviews.

Course outcomes

  1. 01 1.By the completion of the course the students will be able to: develop language of culinary arts from an occupational perspective.

Week 1 Introduction to the course: The Casablanca Staff: Meet the team / Map of the restaurant. SB pages 6&7.
Week 2 Unit 1 Hello / Function: Introducing yourself, intoducing colleaques / Language: Asking for and giving personal information. / Vocabulary: Greetings and introductions, numbers, countries and nationalities. SB pages 8-13.
Week 3 Vocabulary: Culinary arts terminology / Unit 1 Workbook pages 4, 5, 6 & 7.
Week 4 Unit 2 A new job / Function: Describing a restaurant, describing a kitchen / Language: The present simple, there is, there are, prepositions of place. / Vocabulary: The restaurant, the workplace, jobs. SB pages 14-19.
Week 5 Vocabulary: Culinary arts terminology / Unit 2 Workbook pages 8, 9, 10 &11.
Week 6 Unit 3 The Casablanca / Function: Dealing with enquiries and giving directions. / Language: Present continuıous, giving directions, prepositions of movement. / Vocabulary: Wh- words, seating arrangements, verbs of movement. SB pages 20-25.
