Course Description
This course covers the fundamental and advanced concepts of power system harmonics and power quality. It introduces nonlinear loads and their effects on power system behavior, as well as the mathematical methods used for harmonic analysis. The course examines harmonic-producing networks, harmonic distribution in power systems, and modelling and simulation techniques for evaluating harmonic distortion. Topics also include parallel and series resonance, the adverse effects of harmonics on power system equipment and operation, and practical methods for harmonic mitigation. Special emphasis is given to passive and active harmonic filters, along with other power quality improvement techniques. Upon completion, students will be able to analyze harmonic problems and propose suitable mitigation solutions in modern power systems.
