Course Description
A course that offers a review of matrix algebra; basic principles of structural analysis: stiffness, flexibility, and energy methods; direct stiffness method for plane and space trusses and frames; linear and non-linear problems; special problems; and computer programming and applications. Theory of plasticity and its application to structural design. The behavior of steel structures beyond the elastic limit and till collapse. Study of component parts of frames: methods of predicting strength and deformation in the plastic range. Plastic design also helps to multistory frames. Comparison of conventional design methods with plastic design techniques.
