Course Description

The course comprises the following items: External climate exposure on buildings, critical exposure conditions for different materials, degradation mechanisms of building materials, dose/response functions, natural and artificial ageing of materials, protection of materials, requirements and needs for service life prediction of building materials and components, methods to determine service life. The course also covers the Factors causing deterioration of materials. Durability of building stones. Decay and preservation of timber-mechanism of metal corrosion. Corrosion protection for metals. Deterioration of concrete. Mechanism of concrete corrosion. Effects of various chemicals, sea water ground water and industrial wastes. Protective measures against concrete corrosion.
