Course Description
In Highway Materials and Construction course, students will be introduced to properties and quality requirements of highway materials. Students will also be introduced to subgrades, sub-bases, bases and asphalt pavements of highway. Highway Materials and Construction course covers construction procedures & plants and compaction control. Asphalt pavement types, bituminous materials and mineral aggregates will be introduced to students. Surface treatment, hot-mix asphalt (HMA) design and calculations, typical failures of asphalt pavements and diagnosis of probable causes in the area will be considered through case studies. Site visits will be organized to observe the production of aggregates, HMA plant and laboratories in the local area.
