Course Description
The course concerns with the history of graphic design beginning from the first representations of visual communication. Students get a general information about the evolution of graphic design in different realms. Gutenberg's print press is a milestone. Arts and Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau, the effects of Industrial Revolution on graphic design is the main focus issues. Different design movements will be represented with a comparative analysis. The main concern is to make links between the concepts, art movements, and historical events. The course ends with the First Things First Manifest which has been declared at 1964 by Ken Garland. With this critical point, students are expected to comprehend the changing role of graphic design.
