Analysis of geographical and cultural context, architectural heritage, Niemeyer’s design approach, spatial organisation, circulation, interior–exterior relationships, materials, openings, daylight, climate, landscape and relationship with Pampulha Lake. Development of user profile, activities and initial spatial programme. Initiation of Study Models. Student Presentation 1: Individual Research – Casa Kubitschek + Selected Artist/Designer/Scientist + User Requirements. |

Development of the residency scenario, user journey, activity patterns, functional relationships zoning. Discussion of how the selected user's creative/research practice can generate spatial requirements without becoming a superficial decorative theme.Student Presentation 2: Historical Buildings and Contemporary Adaptive-Reuse Strategies. |

Testing programme–space relationships within the existing building. Identification of elements to preserve, adapt and transform. Development of circulation, spatial hierarchy, interior–exterior continuity, atmosphere and preliminary material strategies. |

Discussion of reversible additions, partitions, fittings, services and contemporary intervention language. Resolution of circulation, functional relationships, living–working/creating/researching interfaces and sharing spaces. Initial detailed investigation of selected areas at 1/20 scale. Student Presentation 4: Material, Colour and Furniture in Adaptive-Reuse Interiors. |

Final jury feedback and revision directions. |
